About Smith Stearns
Evan Austin joins the Smith Stearns Team!
A note from our Academy Director, BJ Stearns, about the hiring of Evan Austin as a Head Academy Coach for Smith Stearns.
Dear Smith Stearns Families,
We are proud to announce that we have added another valuable member to our Smith Stearns team. Evan Austin has recently accepted the position to be our Head Academy Coach here at Smith Stearns Tennis Academy.
Evan comes to Smith Stearns most recently from his position as the Head Coach of the Fresno State men’s tennis team where he led his team to their best finish ever in 2014. Before Fresno, Evan held positions as the Head Coach of Drake University for two seasons and the assistant coach at the University of Wisconsin from 2006-2010.
Evan also had great success as both a junior and collegiate player as he was one of the top ranked players in the country throughout his playing career. As a junior, Evan was ranked as high as #4 in the U.S. in the 18 and under division where he had victories over ATP professionals Andy Roddick, Mardy Fish, Joachim Johansson and Mario Ancic.
As a collegiate player, Evan played at the University of Kentucky where he was a three-year letterwinner and co-captain of the 2003-2004 squad that finished the season ranked #14 nationally. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Kentucky in business administration in 2004.
Evan is really looking forward to coaching high performance junior players and making an impact on their young careers.
Evan will join us on Sunday, at the beginning of the school year program. We are all very excited about Evan joining our team and are really looking forward to our best year yet at the academy!
